Down by one at the break and still within striking distance, Capital City Roots FC could not hold the line on Sunday afternoon in south Omaha. Three straight unanswered goals from Omaha Street FC flipped a competitive 1-2 deficit into a 1-4 final on the road, leaving the Roots with another quick Omaha return on the schedule.
The Roots traveled to Omaha South High School for their second straight road test of the Spring 2026 UPSL Premier season. Omaha Street came out on the front foot and broke through first, capitalizing on early pressure to take a 1-0 lead and force the Roots to chase.
Capital City answered through one of its quieter weapons. In the 32nd minute, Ademir Zalihic (#7) slipped a sharp ball forward to (#28) Domnick Myeng, who finished cleanly to level the match at 1-1. The equalizer was short-lived. Omaha Street restored their advantage before the interval, sending both sides into the break with the home side up 2-1 and the result still very much in play.
The second half is where it got away. Omaha Street found a third, then a fourth, scoring three unanswered goals to put the game beyond reach. The Roots pushed for a response that never came, and Domnick picked up a yellow card late in a physical stretch of play.
A small contingent of Roots supporters made the drive across the state to back the team in person. Roughly 25 fans were on hand at Omaha South, and at this stage of the club’s growth, the road following matters as much as any line on the stat sheet.
The bright spot wore Roots green. Domnick earned man of the match honors for his goal, his work rate, and the way he refused to let the scoreline dictate his effort. The Roots head back to Omaha next Sunday for another away test, this time against Bana Mboka FC.
Season update: Bana Mboka FC defeated the Roots 5-4 on May 24. Capital City Roots FC finished Spring 2026 with a 4-2-4 league record.
